30-Days to Harmony, Day 5
Creating Your Life Vision Board

The Power of a Life Vision Board
Welcome to Day 5 of the 30 Days to Harmony journey! Today, we focus on creating your life vision. Crafting a clear vision for your life is a transformative process. It can help you identify what truly matters, set meaningful goals, and guide your decisions in a way that aligns with your purpose and desires. A well-defined life vision gives you direction, clarity, and a sense of fulfillment that transcends the chaos of daily life.
When I think back to my early career days, I remember a period that felt hopeless. I was scraping by, working at a fast-food joint called "Vittles," and felt like my dreams were slipping away. But one day, after a minor mishap on my way to work, I realized that I could no longer accept living this life. From that moment on, I decided to take action. This vision and determination led me to pursue education, take a leap into technology, and ultimately find my purpose. Your vision is what propels you forward in life—beyond obstacles, failures, and setbacks.
"Powerful change happens when you recognize the gravity of a situation, envision a new path, commit to it, and take action." - Trina Celeste
Why You Need a Life Vision Board
A life vision board is a mental image of where you want to be and what you want to achieve. Putting visuals onto a board, or written on paper gives your daily activities meaning, ties your actions to your goals, and inspires you to work towards a future that excites you. Without a life vision brought into reality through a board or documented in any way, you risk being caught up in the monotony of day-to-day demands, feeling directionless and unsure of your purpose.
Think of a life vision like the blueprint to your dream home. Without it, the builders wouldn’t know where to lay the foundation, what walls to erect, or how to make sure everything comes together harmoniously. Similarly, without a vision, you can find yourself reacting to whatever life throws your way without a clear sense of where you want to go.
Crafting Your Vision: Step-by-Step
Creating a vision for your life involves careful reflection and imagination. Here are some practical steps to help you get started:
1. Reflect on What Matters Most
Take a moment to pause and reflect on what is most important to you. Ask yourself questions like:
What makes me feel alive?
When do I feel the most fulfilled?
Who are the people I want to surround myself with?
These reflections can give you insight into the kind of life you wish to live. During a particularly low point in my life, I took the time to reflect on my passions and dreams, which led me to transition from architectural engineering to computer science. This clarity helped me identify a new path forward, one that was more aligned with my interests and goals.
2. Dream Without Limits
Don’t limit yourself by your current circumstances, fears, or insecurities. Take out a pen and paper and write down everything that comes to mind when you think about your ideal life. Don’t hold back—dream big! What would you do if there were no obstacles in your way? What passions would you pursue if failure wasn't an option?
For instance, when I decided to attend Harvard Business School’s leadership program, it was a bold choice. I was recovering from a major surgery, and my life had recently been upended by a cancer diagnosis. Yet, despite the setbacks, I envisioned myself sitting in a classroom at Harvard, soaking up knowledge. This vision gave me the courage to apply and eventually get accepted, changing my life forever.
3. Write a Personal Vision Statement
After brainstorming your ideal life, take some time to write a personal vision statement. This is a clear, concise declaration of what you want your life to look like, who you want to become, and the impact you want to make. A good vision statement includes the following:
Your Mission: What do you want to accomplish in life?
Values: What principles will guide your decisions?
Impact: How do you want to contribute to others or the world?
For example: "My purpose is to empower women to embrace their strengths, overcome challenges, and lead confidently and authentically."
Your vision should excite you and give you direction. It becomes the North Star that helps you navigate life's obstacles.
4. Commit to Your Vision
Once your life vision board is in place, commit to it fully. This means taking small daily steps to align your actions with your vision. Whether that means making time for a hobby that brings you joy, investing in education, or stepping away from a toxic work environment, make choices that help bring your vision to life.
When I worked at eBay, I faced a challenging situation with canceled flights and a lack of options. However, I remained committed to showing up for a leadership event that I knew was important. That commitment led me to attend the event, hear life-changing insights from a keynote speaker, and ultimately alter the trajectory of my career. Commitment to your vision is what will drive you through challenges.
5. Take Action
The final and most crucial part of creating a life vision board is taking action. Your vision means nothing without action—it’s simply a dream on paper. Identify specific goals that will help move you closer to your ideal future, and break those goals down into manageable steps.
For example, if your vision involves making a career change, break it down into steps like:
Researching industries that excite you
Taking online courses to build relevant skills
Networking with people already in the field
Every action you take—no matter how small—brings you one step closer to your vision.
Real-Life Example: The "Vittles" Moment
In the book, I share a personal story of working at a fast-food place called "Vittles" right after high school. During this period, I felt lost and directionless. One day, after a minor accident on my way to work, I realized I couldn’t keep living that way. I was determined to change my life. That day became my "Vittles Moment"—the turning point when I decided to take control and envision a better future for myself.
If you find yourself in a "Vittles Moment" today, take it as an opportunity to create a new vision for your future. Use this discomfort to propel you into action and change.
Tune In Moment
Tune In Moment: Take some time today to reflect on the life you truly desire. Write down your ideas, big or small, and draft your own personal vision statement. What would your ideal day look like? What impact would you love to make on the world? Take that first step in designing your life vision.
